Gurgaon - formally Gurugram - is one of India's most economically productive urban centres and one of its most psychologically demanding. Known as the Millennium City, it is home to over 500 Fortune 500 companies, dozens of multinational headquarters, and a workforce of several hundred thousand professionals operating under conditions of sustained high performance pressure. It is also, informally, one of India's heaviest-drinking cities - with data suggesting residents spend approximately ₹300 crore on alcohol monthly.
This combination - high occupational pressure, cultural normalisation of alcohol, separation from family support networks, long commutes, and a social environment where admitting difficulty feels professionally risky - creates conditions in which addiction and mental health conditions develop, persist, and escalate without being addressed.
