The Problem No One in the Boardroom Talks About

You have built something. A company, a career, a reputation. You make decisions that affect hundreds - sometimes thousands - of people every day. You are expected to be sharp, composed, and certain. And most of the time, you are.

But there are nights when sleep doesn't come. Mornings when getting up feels heavier than it should. Moments mid-meeting when your mind goes somewhere you cannot explain to anyone in that room. Stretches of weeks where the drive that once defined you has gone quiet.

This is not weakness. It is not failure. It is what sustained high performance, unrelenting responsibility, and years of running on adrenaline can do to the human brain and body. The research on executive mental health is unambiguous - and largely ignored.

72% of entrepreneurs report experiencing mental health challenges, including depression and anxiety (Freeman et al., Harvard Medical School)
96% of C-suite leaders report feeling burned out, with 1 in 3 describing it as extreme (Deloitte, 2023)
40% of high-achieving professionals meet criteria for at least one anxiety disorder at some point in their careers
60%+ of executives experiencing mental health difficulties never seek help - citing confidentiality concerns, stigma, and 'no time'
2-4× higher rates of burnout among founders and CEOs compared to their own senior leadership teams

The most common reason senior professionals don't seek help is not that they don't know they need it. It is that they cannot find care that is designed for them - private enough, clinically serious enough, and flexible enough to work around the reality of their lives.

That is exactly what Athena's Executive & High-Performance Care programme is built to provide.

What Makes Executive Care at Athena Different

Most mental health services are designed for people with time, flexibility, and no reputational stakes. You have none of those luxuries. Athena's executive programme is built around three principles that reflect that reality:

Absolute Confidentiality · Clinical Depth · Performance-Aware Care

Absolute Confidentiality

Your engagement with Athena is between you and your clinical team - full stop. No records are shared with your organisation, board, investors, or family members without your explicit written consent. Our facilities, systems, and clinical staff operate under NABH-governed data protection standards and the Mental Healthcare Act, 2017. Many of our executive clients work with us for years without anyone in their professional circle being aware. That is by design.

Clinical Depth

We are not a wellness app. We are not a coaching platform. We are a clinically accredited psychiatric organisation with AIIMS-trained psychiatrists, licensed clinical psychologists, and certified addiction specialists. That means we can do things most 'executive wellness' providers cannot: diagnose, prescribe, treat, and - if ever needed - provide inpatient care within our own facilities. You will never be referred out to a stranger because your situation became 'too complex.'

Performance-Aware Care

We understand that 'take three months off' is not a realistic prescription for most leaders. Our clinical team is experienced in working with high-performing individuals under constraint. We build treatment plans that fit your schedule, your travel, your operational reality - while still being clinically rigorous. The goal is not to remove you from your life. It is to help you show up to it more fully.

Who This Programme Is For

Athena's Executive & High-Performance Care is designed for professionals whose circumstances, responsibilities, or preferences mean that standard mental health services are not a fit. This includes:

Founders & Entrepreneurs Navigating isolation, financial pressure, and identity tied entirely to their company
CEOs & Managing Directors Carrying institutional weight with no peer to confide in at the same level
CXOs & Senior Leadership Performance pressure, political complexity, and decision fatigue at scale
Private Equity & Investment Professionals Deal stress, volatility anxiety, and always-on cultures
Legal & Consulting Partners Perfectionism, client adversity, and billable pressure without end
Family Business Leaders The intersection of professional and family conflict, succession stress
Senior Government & Public Figures Reputational constraints that make standard care inaccessible
High-Achieving Professionals in Transition Exit, acquisition, redundancy, or role change after years of identity-as-role

What We Work With

Athena's executive team has deep experience across the full range of challenges that high-performance professionals face - from subclinical stress that is eroding quality of life, to diagnosable conditions that have gone unaddressed for years.

Burnout & Exhaustion

Genuine clinical burnout - not just tiredness - is characterised by emotional exhaustion, depersonalisation, and a collapse in the sense of personal efficacy. It requires structured clinical intervention, not a weekend retreat. We assess burnout severity, identify its specific drivers in your professional and personal context, and build a phased recovery plan that does not require your career to stop.

Executive Depression

Depression in high achievers often presents differently from textbook descriptions. It can look like irritability rather than sadness, overworking rather than withdrawal, or a vague loss of meaning beneath a surface of continued functioning. Our psychiatrists are experienced in identifying and treating atypical presentations of depression in senior professionals, including when medication is appropriate and what evidence-based therapy looks like at this level.

Anxiety, Control, & Uncertainty

The higher you sit, the more you carry - and the less control you actually have over outcomes. Chronic uncertainty at scale is one of the most common drivers of executive anxiety. We work with leaders experiencing generalised anxiety, health anxiety, panic, and the specific cognitive patterns that emerge from years of operating in high-stakes environments.

Sleep Disruption

Poor sleep is the silent performance killer that most executives normalise until it becomes a crisis. We offer comprehensive psychiatric assessment of sleep disturbance - distinguishing between stress-related insomnia, sleep-onset anxiety, mood-related disruption, and other causes - with evidence-based treatment rather than long-term reliance on sleeping tablets.

Substance Use & Dependency

Alcohol as a wind-down ritual. Benzodiazepines prescribed years ago that have quietly become anecessity. Stimulant use to maintain edge. These patterns are common in high-pressure professional environments and rarely acknowledged until they create a crisis. Athena offers discreet, non- judgemental assessment and treatment for substance use concerns, including access to our residential de-addiction facilities if required - and a return-to-performance protocol on the other side.

Leadership Transitions & Identity

Exits, acquisitions, retirement, succession, and role loss can trigger profound psychological disruption - especially when professional identity and self-worth have been tightly bound for decades. We work with leaders navigating these transitions to rebuild a stable sense of self and purpose that does not depend on a title.

Relationship & Family Strain

High performance has relational costs. Marriages under strain. Children who feel like strangers. Ageing parents managed from a distance. Partners who carry resentment. We offer couples and family therapy as part of the executive programme, recognising that sustainable performance is inseparable from the quality of your most important relationships.

Cognitive Performance & Concentration

Brain fog, difficulty concentrating, decision fatigue, and memory concerns are increasingly common among professionals in their 40s and 50s. We provide comprehensive psychiatric and neuropsychological assessment to distinguish between stress-related cognitive changes, sleep-related impairment, mood disorder, and other causes - and to build an evidence-based plan to restore mental clarity.

How the Executive Programme Works

Athena's executive programme is not a standard intake process with a form and a 10-day waiting list. Every engagement begins with a direct conversation with a senior clinician - and everything that follows is built around your specific situation, schedule, and goals.

Step 1 : Confidential Initial Consultation

Your first appointment is a 60-90 minute consultation with a senior psychiatrist or clinical psychologist, conducted in person at one of our facilities or via secure video. No forms, no questionnaires to fill out in a waiting room. The conversation is clinical and confidential. It establishes what is happening, what you need, and whether Athena is the right fit.

Step 2 : Clinical Assessment & Formulation

Where clinically indicated, we conduct a structured psychiatric assessment, psychological testing, and - if relevant - specialist assessments for sleep, neuropsychological function, or substance use. The output is a clinical formulation: a clear, jargon-free account of what is driving your difficulties and what the evidence says about treating them.

Step 3 : Personalised Treatment Plan

No two executive clients at Athena receive the same programme. Your plan may include a combination of: regular psychiatric consultations with medication management where appropriate, individual psychotherapy (CBT, ACT, psychodynamic, or integrative), couples or family sessions, and structured coaching for performance and leadership sustainability. The frequency, modality, and pace are entirely determined by what your clinical picture requires and your schedule allows.

Step 4 : Ongoing Care with Full Flexibility

Sessions can be in person at Athena's Gurgaon, Delhi, or Noida facilities, via secure video from anywhere in the world, or - for select clients - at a location of your choosing. If you travel frequently, we build that in. If you need to reschedule with short notice, our team accommodates that. Clinical quality does not require rigidity.

Step 5 : Crisis Access, Always

Every executive client at Athena has direct access to their clinical team in the event of a crisis - not a call centre. If you are in acute distress, if something happens that requires immediate clinical attention, we are reachable. And if hospitalisation is ever required, it happens within our own facility network, with your clinical team informed and involved throughout.

Beyond Treatment: Sustaining High Performance

Not every executive who comes to Athena is in crisis. Many come because they want to perform at the highest level for longer - and they have started to notice the early signs of what happens when that is not actively managed.

Our performance-focused work sits at the intersection of psychiatry, psychology, and evidence-based performance science. We help senior professionals:

01

Build sustainable cognitive and emotional capacity - not just manage symptoms

02

Develop insight into the patterns, defences, and blind spots that limit leadership effectiveness

03

Establish recovery rhythms that prevent the accumulation of stress into burnout

04

Manage anxiety as a performance tool rather than a liability

05

Strengthen decision-making under pressure through psychological flexibility training

06

Build the relational intelligence that separates good leaders from exceptional ones

This is not coaching. It is clinically grounded, psychologically sophisticated work with professionals who want to perform at the highest level without paying the health and relational costs that usually come with it.

Our Commitment to Your Privacy

We will state this plainly, because it is the question every executive client needs answered before anything else:

Nothing that happens in your care at Athena will ever reach your board, your investors, your organisation's HR team, your co-founders, or the press - without your explicit written consent.

This commitment is not a marketing promise. It is enforced by:

  • NABH accreditation standards, which carry independent audit obligations on patient confidentiality.
  • The Mental Healthcare Act, 2017, which provides strong legal protections for psychiatric records.
  • Athena's internal clinical governance protocols, which restrict record access to the treating team only.
  • The professional ethics codes of the Medical Council of India and the Rehabilitation Council of India, which bind our psychiatrists and psychologists.

We also understand the reputational dimension. We do not publish case studies. We do not use client names in any marketing, even anonymised. The existence of your engagement with us is your business, and yours alone.

Your enquiry will be handled directly by our clinical lead. No junior staff, no automated responses.

Why Senior Professionals Choose Athena

Athena Behavioral Health was founded on the conviction that serious mental health challenges deserve serious clinical responses - not wellness content, not meditation apps, not a sympathetic voice on a helpline. Over 15 years, we have built a psychiatric care organisation that meets that standard.

Our psychiatrists trained at institutions including AIIMS Delhi. Our clinical psychologists hold postgraduate degrees from recognised universities and maintain active professional registration. Our facilities in Gurgaon, Delhi, Noida, and Guwahati are NABH accredited - the highest clinical quality standard in Indian healthcare.

Our executive clinical lead has worked with senior professionals across corporate India, and our approach to executive care has been shaped by years of understanding what this population actually needs - and what gets in the way of them seeking it.

We are not the right fit for everyone. We are the right fit for professionals who want clinical rigour, absolute privacy, and care that respects the reality of their lives.

Frequently Asked Questions

No. Many of our executive clients are high-functioning professionals who want structured support to sustain performance and prevent deterioration. You do not need to be in breakdown to benefit from this programme. In fact, the most effective engagements begin before a crisis, not after.

Executive coaches are not clinicians. They cannot diagnose, prescribe, or treat mental healthconditions. Coaching is valuable for performance and leadership development. Athena's executive programme is clinical - it addresses the psychological and psychiatric dimensions of what you are experiencing, which a coach is neither trained nor licensed to do. Some clients work with both, and we are happy to coordinate with a coach where it adds value.

Yes, entirely. Athena's executive programme is a direct-to-individual service. You engage with us privately, pay privately, and your employer has no visibility into your care unless you choose to involve them. Many clients specifically seek us out because they do not want any organisational involvement.

If inpatient care is ever required, it is available within Athena's own facility network. Your treating team remains involved. Admission planning is handled with complete discretion, including arrangements for communications cover if needed. We have managed this for senior professionals before and have a clear protocol for doing so with minimal disruption.

We aim to schedule an initial consultation within 48-72 hours of your enquiry for executive clients. In genuine crisis situations, same-day access is available.

Yes. All services - including psychiatrist consultations and therapy - are available via secure video. Many of our executive clients who travel frequently conduct the majority of their sessions virtually, with occasional in-person appointments when in Delhi NCR.

No. Medication is used only when clinically indicated and discussed transparently with you before any prescription is made. Many clients engage with Athena's executive programme on a purely psychotherapeutic basis. Where medication does form part of the plan, it is managed by one of our senior psychiatrists with regular review.

Executive programme fees are provided on enquiry and reflect the level of clinical input, frequency of sessions, and whether specialist assessments are included. We do not publish a fixed rate because no two programmes are structured identically. Fees are payable privately. We do not currently bill insurance for executive programme services, though we can provide documentation for reimbursement where your policy permits.

Yes. Family and couples sessions can be integrated into the programme. Some clients also arrange separate, independent care for a spouse or adult child through Athena, with completely separate records and no cross-disclosure.

You can disengage at any point. There are no lock-in contracts. If you decide to pause or end the programme, your clinical team will conduct a brief closing session to ensure you are stable and have clarity on what to do if you need support in future.
